Overview

Platelet-Rich Plasma

PRP is produced from a person’s own blood. It is a concentration of one type of cell, known as platelets, which circulate through the blood and are critical for blood clotting. Platelets and the liquid plasma portion of the blood contain many factors that are essential for cell recruitment, multiplication, and specialization that are required for healing.

Preparation and Mechanism of Action

To prepare PRP, a small amount of blood is taken from the patient and placed in a centrifuge. The centrifuge spins and automatically produces the PRP by concentrating the platelets. Then the PRP is injected at the site of injury under ultrasound guidance.. The growth factors that the platelets secrete stimulate tissue recovery making everything stronger and tighter to withstand the stress of daily and sports-related activities.

Benefits of PRP Therapy

Patients can see a significant improvement in symptoms. This may eliminate the need for more aggressive treatments such as long-term medication or surgery, as well as a remarkable return of function.

Conditions that can be treated with PRP

PRP injections can be performed in tendons, ligaments, joints, and nerves all over the body. Sports injuries or any appropriate tendon injuries such as tennis elbow, golfers elbow, rotator cuff tears, ligament injuries ACL tears, anterior talofibular ligament, calcaneofibular ligament, plantar fasciopathy, osteoarthritis may all be effectively treated with PRP.
